Double digit turnpike toll hikes coming to Kansas in October

The Kansas Turnpike Authority recently announced plans to increase tolls for both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles starting in October.

As of October 1, the Kansas Turnpike Authority will increase tolls for commercial vehicle drivers paying with cash by 10%. Commercial vehicle drivers using the electronic K-Tag system will see a smaller increase as tolls are rounded up to the nearest nickel.

Passenger vehicle drivers will also be paying more starting on October 1. Passenger vehicle drivers paying cash will see a toll increase of 12.5% while those who use the K-Tag system will pay 5% more.

CEO of the Kansas Turnpike Commission Steve Hewitt says that about 60% of current toll customers use the K-Tag system.

Kent Olson, director of finance for the Kansas Turnpike Authority, said, “a modest toll adjustment is necessary to pay for preservation and modernization projects using cash on hand rather than issuing new debt.”
