Luxury cars severely damaged when car hauler misjudges bridge

The truck was hauling new Bentleys, Maseratis and Porsches.

A truck hauling brand new exotic luxury cars almost sent them to the crusher a bit early after failing to make it under a bridge Wednesday evening.

New Bentleys, Maseratis and Porsches were being hauled from Florida to Delaware but the car hauler came to a brutal stop under the Lower Beech Street bridge in Wilmington, Delaware. The driver thought he could make it underneath the overpass, according to police.

Several of the cars were severely damaged, but the bridge and rails were not harmed according to the police report.

As a result of the mistake, the roadway was blocked for about nine hours from 5:30 p.m. until 2:30 a.m. when the towing company was able to partially disassemble the trailer to get it loose.

The truck driver was cited for inattentive driving.
