Kentucky State Police (KSP) say that a man was seriously injured in a semi truck vs. pedestrian crash in Henderson this morning.
The crash happened just before 8 a.m. on northbound Highway 41.
From a KSP news release describing the unusual incident:
“Kentucky State Police responded to a single vehicle versus pedestrian accident on US 41 in Henderson around 7:45 this morning. KSP’s Commercial Vehicle Enforcement officers determined that 44 year-old Randall L. Compton of Cadiz was operating a 2008 Peterbilt tractor-trailer on US 41 northbound when he came to a red light at US 41 and Marywood Drive.
While Compton was waiting for the light to change, Randy L. Hallmark, 62, of Henderson attempted to cross US 41 by walking underneath the semi’s trailer. When the light turned green, Compton proceeded to go through the intersection where his unloaded trailer ran over Hallmark who was still under the trailer.“
Hallmark was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Multiple agencies in addition to KSP responded to the incident, including the Henderson Police Department and the Henderson Fire Department.
The incident resulted in miles-long traffic backups.
