The Utah Highway Patrol says that a semi truck driver was suffering from some sort of medical emergency when he veered off of the interstate and into an overhead sign support in a crash that claimed his life.
The crash happened around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, December 17, near Bountiful, Utah, according to Fox 13.
Utah troopers say that the truck driver was northbound on I-15 near the 400 North Exit when he slowly swerved across the interstate, over an on ramp, and onto the shoulder before crashing into an overhead sign support.
The truck driver was transported to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash and no other injuries were reported.
The Utah Highway Patrol has confirmed that the crash was caused by a medical emergency, but the cause of the driver’s death remains undetermined. “At this point in our investigation, we know a medical problem contributed to the cause of the crash. However, we cannot say if the driver died from the medical problem or the crash,” Utah troopers said.
The incident remains under investigation.
