When police responded to a semi truck crash late last night in Monitor Township, Michigan, they had no idea that they’d be coming face to face with a truck full of tigers.
The crash happened just before midnight on southbound I-75, according to MLive.
The Bay County Sheriff’s office says that rain and other inclement weather conditions caused a semi truck to hydroplane and to jackknife on the median of the interstate. Officers reportedly knew that the truck was hauling live animals, but they had no idea what kind.
When police arrived, they soon discovered that the truck was hauling eight Bengal tigers weighing approximately six hundred pounds each.
Neither the truck driver nor the tigers were hurt in the crash.
Investigators later learned that the tigers are owned by a circus and that they were en route to New York.
The Bay County Sheriff’s Office says that the tigers were held at towing company overnight while the crash was cleaned up.
