If you’re passing through Phoenix starting this weekend, make sure to plan ahead for several closures on I-10 that are expected to cause heavy traffic delays.
Starting at 10 p.m. on Friday, November 2, Arizona transportation officials will be shutting down all lanes of westbound I-10 between 43rd and 67th avenues. This closure will last until 5 a.m. on Monday, November 5.
All of the eastbound lanes of I-10 between 67th and 51st avenues will also be closed down from 9 p.m. on Friday, November 16 through 4 p.m. on Sunday, November 18.
The Arizona Department of Transportation suggests Loop 101 west of I-17 as an alternative to I-10 this weekend.
Several interstate ramps will also be shut down this weekend. All westbound I-10 on-ramps at 27th and 35th avenues will be shut down in addition to the northbound and southbound I-17 ramps connecting to westbound I-10. Eastbound I-10 on-ramps at 91st, 83rd, 79th and 75th avenues are also scheduled to be closed for the weekend.
The interstate closure will allow crews to shift lanes for the construction of the Loop 202 South Mountain Freeway interchange. This project will connect the East Valley and West Valley and allow drivers to avoid I-10 in the downtown Phoenix area.
