New Jersey troopers find $5.1 million worth of marijuana at I-78 weigh station

Authorities announced today that arrested a California truck driver after they discovered half a ton of marijuana in his vehicle at a weigh station off I-78.

California-based truck driver Guangyu Wu, 45, has been charged with possession of marijuana and possession with the intent to distribute more than 25 pounds of the drug, according to a news release from the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

New Jersey State Troopers say that they discovered the drugs on Tuesday, August 14, at the eastbound weigh station in Greenwich Township.

Troopers say that as they searched Wu’s truck, they found more than a thousand pounds of marijuana packed into 44 cardboard boxes. Police say that the estimated street value of the drugs is $5,145,000.

If convicted, Wu faces more than 20 years behind bars and $300,000 in fines.
