Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck near fuel pumps at Illinois truck stop

Pedestrian dies after being hit by truck near fuel pumps at Illinois truck stop

The Illinois State Police say that a man was killed last night when he was hit and dragged by a semi truck while walking at a truck stop.

Truck Driver Unaware That He Hit A Person, Keeps Going

The accident happened at the Phillips 66 truck stop in Oakwood, Illinois, just before 7 p.m.

Police say that a 47 year old Jacksonville resident was walking near the diesel fuel pumps when a semi truck pulled away from the pumps and hit him. The truck driver, a 45 year old man from Ohio, was not aware that he had hit anyone and continued driving his truck onto Oakwood Road and then onto the I-74 on ramp.

The truck driver pulled over the on the on ramp because he thought his truck was having mechanical problems. It was then that a witness who saw the pedestrian get hit by the truck was able to make contact with the truck driver to let him know what happened, according to police.

Rescue crews were called to the scene, but they were unable to save the pedestrian.

No Charges Filed Against Truck Driver

The incident remains under investigation by the Illinois State Police. No charges have been filed against the truck driver at this time.
