PennDOT issues truck ban ahead of major winter storm
Pennsylvania transportation officials have issued a ban for commercial vehicles in preparation for a heavy winter storm.
Beginning at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, all commercial vehicles are banned from Pennsylvania’s I-380 and I-84.
Additionally, starting at midnight on Tuesday, the following vehicles will be banned on certain Pennsylvania roadways:
- Empty straight trucks
- Large combination vehicles (tandem trailers and double trailers)
- Tractors hauling empty trailers
- Trailers pulled by passenger vehicles
- Motorcycles
- Recreational vehicles, or RVs
The vehicles listed above will be banned on the following roadways:
- Interstate 78 from the junction with Interstate 81 in Lebanon County to the New Jersey line.
- I-80 from the junction with Interstate 81 to the New Jersey line.
- I-81 from the Maryland line to the New York State line.
- I-84 from the junction with Interstate 81 to the New York State line.
- I-380 from the junction with Interstate 80 to the junction with Interstate 81.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission has issued a ban for the types of vehicles listed above on the northeastern extension between the Lehigh Tunnel and Clarks Summit.
The travel bans will remain in place as long as is necessary for the weather conditions. More vehicle bans and speed restrictions could be put into place as the winter storm develops tomorrow.
