Pilot lands on highway, ‘relieves himself’ on side of road

Published:

Just moments after making an emergency landing on an busy interstate in Alabama, a relieved student pilot stepped off the shoulder of the roadway for a bathroom break.

The incident began on Saturday, December 22, on westbound I-20 near Anniston, Alabama, when pilot Jim Williams and his student noticed that there was something seriously wrong with their single engine plane.

Williams soon discovered that the plane’s engine had failed and knew that he had to come up with a plan quickly. “I was out of options. And the interstate was the closest, so I made a left turn and dodged some traffic and a sign and managed to get it stopped,” Williams told WSBTV.

Williams was able to maneuver the plane onto I-20 in spite of heavy holiday traffic.

Remarkably, no one was hurt.

Moments after the plane lands, video captured at the scene shows one of the men from inside the plane as he walks off the side of the road to answer the call of nature.

Williams said that it was the first flight for his student pilot.
