West Virginia State Police say that a truck driver who had been reported as “overdue” by his company lost control on a steep grade on Allegheny Mountain and did not survive the crash.
West Virginia State Police received a call about a semi truck that had crashed off Allegheny Mountain on the morning of July 28, according to WHSV.
When police arrived at the crash site, they discovered the body of 37 year old Virginia-based truck driver Omar Hadi Fenjan Al Khuzaie outside of the crashed truck.
Investigators say that Al Khuzaie was hauling a load of eggs east on Route 33 four miles west of Seneca Rocks. Al Khuzaie reportedly lost control on the 10% grade roadway just before a sharp turn, crashing through the guardrail and rolling off the roadway over a steep embankment.
Al Khuzaie was ejected in the crash as the truck rolled down the mountainside, smashing into several trees and spilling vast amounts of debris.
Troopers on the scene were at first unable to determine the driver’s identity, but they were later informed that the company that owned the truck, Interchange Group, had called 911 on July 27 because Al Khuzaie had missed a scheduled appointment and could not be contacted.
Investigators are still not sure exactly when the crash happened.
