Trucker Survives Fall From Overpass Onto I-5

The crash happened around 10 a.m. in the San Fernando Valley area. According to the California Highway Patrol, the truck crashed through a concrete barrier on the westbound 118 Freeway interchange and fell onto northbound I-5 below. The truck came to a stop blocking several lanes of the freeway.

According to ABC 7, several other vehicles were also involved in the crash.

The truck driver was hurt during the crash, but he was reportedly conscious afterward. He has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

It isn’t clear how many other injuries resulted from this crash.

All northbound lanes of the 5 Freeway were shut down while crews worked to clean up the crash. It isn’t clear when the lanes will reopen.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. CHP has not said whether the same heavy rains that have produced serious mudslides in the area could have contributed to the crash. At least five people have died as a result of the mudslides.

In the video below, you can hear one witness talk about his close call with the falling semi truck.
