Georgia authorities are warning truck drivers to be on guard after a truck driver was robbed of hundreds of dollars by two armed suspects who broke into his truck while he was sleeping.
The robbery happened late Monday night in Jackson in a lot behind the Chevron gas station on I-75 and Highway 116. According to reports, the lot is often used for truck parking when truck stops fill up.
Police say that a sleeping South Carolina-based trucker was awakened by two suspects entering his truck, which was accidentally left unlocked.
From Johnnie Bryson of the Butts County Sheriff’s Office:”He wakes up to it. Two people climb inside of his truck. He opens the curtains and he’s held at gunpoint, gun to his chest. They ended up taking one of his debit cards and his whole wallet and his cell phone.”
Investigators also say that the trucker surrendered his PIN number to the suspects. The trucker says that he was robbed of almost $900.
The truck driver wasn’t hurt during the robbery.
After the armed robbery, the suspects fled in what police describe as a “(Red) 2015 KIA Sportage , factory rims, all black tinned window roof, no visible damage, unknown tag.”
The suspects are described as two black males of unknown age. Their images were caught on security footage at a nearby Quiktrip.
The Butts County Sheriff’s Office say that they expect the suspects to strike again if they are not apprehended. If you have information on the suspects, you’re asked to call Bryson at 770-775-8216.
