South Dakota warns of potential trucking scam

Published:

The South Dakota Department of Revenue (DOR) has issued a warning to consumers about a “fictitious” truck dealership.

In a news release issued on August 1, the South Dakota DOR has warned consumers to use caution when doing business with a commercial vehicle dealership called South Dakota Trucks.

The South Dakota DOR says that the South Dakota Trucks website lists its address at a location in Rapid City but that there is no actual business at that location.

The website reportedly also lists an inventory of trucks and trailers. Investigators with the DOR found that the vehicles listed are already titled in other states through various dealerships.

If you have any questions about the validity of a vehicle listed on the South Dakota Trucks website, you can call the motor vehicle division at 605-773-3541 for more information.

Anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of a scam at the hands of South Dakota Trucks is asked to call South Dakota’s Consumer Protection Division at 605-773-4400.
