Oklahoma troopers responded to a call about the disabled truck and the stranded elephants in the northbound lanes of U.S. 69 north of Eufaula around 1:45 p.m. The truck had broken down in the outside lane of the highway.

Several news sources are reporting that the bottom fell out from the trailer that was transporting the elephants.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s Lt. Jarrett Johnson said, “A local veterinary office is on scene to transport the elephants. A wrecker service is on scene providing assistance with the vehicle.”

U.S. 69 was partially shut down while the elephants were being transferred to another truck.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol isn’t sure where the elephants are from or where they are heading.
