A tanker truck driver lost his life in Athens, Ohio, this morning after his truck slid off of a slick overpass onto the roadway below.

The crash happened just after 5 a.m.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, 56 year old Georgia-based truck driver Jeffery Byrd was hauling a tanker full of high fructose corn syrup west on U.S. Route 33 when he lost control of his truck. The truck struck a guard rail on the left side of the roadway and then went over a bridge railing, coming to land on Richland Avenue below.

Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The Ohio State Patrol continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
Athens County remains under a Level 2 Snow Emergency. Transportation officials urge drivers to use caution.
