Truck full of 90 suspected illegal immigrants discovered by Texas cops

What began as a traffic stop ended in the arrest of dozens of people suspected to be illegal immigrants, according to Texas police.

A tractor trailer filled with approximately 90 people was discovered around 10 p.m. on May 22, in Raymondville, Texas, about 50 miles north of the U.S. and Mexico border. The truck was pulled over on Highway 77 and Farm to Market Road 3168 by the Texas Department of Public Safety. When officers opened up the trailer, they discovered dozens of people huddled inside.

According to KRGV, several of the suspected illegal immigrants climbed on top of the trailer in an attempt to escape authorities.

After each person was examined, two of them were taken to the hospital for dehydration and heat exhaustion. The rest were taken by border patrol.

The driver of the big rig and a passenger were taken into custody and could be facing charges.

No further injuries were reported.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement will be spearheading the investigation into the incident.
