Truck driver killed while trying to stop his rolling truck in Home Depot parking lot

A truck driver lost his life this morning when he was run over by his own truck in a parking lot in Hoover, Alabama.

Police received a call about the incident, which happened around 5 a.m. at the Home Depot store on U.S. 280. When they arrived on the scene, they found 56 year old North Carolina-based truck driver Anthony Fidel Martin pinned underneath his own truck.

From the Hoover Police Department’s report on the incident:

“Officers arrived to find a male had been run over by an 18 wheeler and was pinned underneath the truck. Medics pronounced the victim deceased. Hoover Police traffic investigators responded to the scene and determined that the victim was the driver of the truck, a 2015 Freightliner.

The preliminary investigation shows the victim may have performing a task outside of the truck when it began to roll forward toward the store. Evidence suggests he tried to get back in the cab to stop it, but either tripped or fell off the running board and got caught underneath the truck. It rolled over the victim and came to rest after striking a shopping cart corral in the parking lot.

The Shelby County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and identified the victim as Anthony Fidel Martin, 56 years old, from Fayetteville, North Carolina. No foul play is suspected. The case remains under investigation by the Hoover Police Traffic Unit. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family.”
