Trucker cited for logbook violation in crash that injured trooper

A truck driver was issued multiple citations after a rear-end crash that put a Maine State Police trooper in the hospital.

The crash happened around 5 a.m. on Friday, December 21, at mile marker 70 on the Maine Turnpike in New Gloucester, according to Maine State Police (MSP).

Trooper John Davis was sitting in his cruiser with emergency lights activated in the breakdown lane after responding to two vehicles that slid off the turnpike. That’s when the cruiser was struck by a semi truck, sending it spinning and then grinding into the guardrail.

The crash left Davis pinned inside his vehicle. He was later transported to the hospital for treatment of serious but non life-threatening injuries.

The 28 year old Michigan-based truck driver Aminder Munday, was cited for imprudent speed as well as a log book violation.

In a Facebook post about the crash, MSP said that Mundy’s truck was “truck was loaded with food goods bound for the Walmart distribution center in Lewiston. The truck is owned by Northstar Carriers of Canton, Michigan.”

The incident shut down a portion of the northbound side of the Turnpike for about four hours.
