Man in critical condition after climbing atop big rig and grabbing live power line

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says that a man was seriously injured yesterday in a mishap involving a semi truck and a live power line.

The incident was reported around 3:30 p.m. on Highway 270 east of Arpelar in Pittsburg County, according to KTUL.

According to limited details offered by the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, at the time of the incident, 53-year-old Douglas Sumners was driving a semi truck on Highway 270 while 52 year old Don Luper was riding on top of the truck. Luper was reportedly attempting to raise a cable line over the highway so that the truck could pass underneath it when he touched an electrical line on accident.

Luper was electrocuted and was taken to the hospital for treatment of critical injuries.

No other injuries were reported.

The incident shut down Highway 270 for about an hour.

Oklahoma police are still investigating the incident.
