Maryland police are investigating after a truck driver lost his life at a weigh station after being placed out of service for brake violations.
The incident happened on Friday around 11: 30 a.m. at the Hyattstown Weigh Station in Montgomery County off of I-270, according to a news release from Maryland State Police (MSP). A MSP trooper with the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division had placed 58 year old truck driver James Lee Hobbs’s rig out of service for brake violations.
Hobbs was attempting to make repairs to the truck’s brakes in the weigh station’s out of service lot when the truck rolled backwards over him. Hobbs was pronounced dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
Police are still investigating the incident but they say that a preliminary investigation revealed that Hobbs failed to set his parking brake before beginning repairs.
