Trucker fights for his life following multi-vehicle crash on I-10

A truck driver was seriously injured this morning in a multi-vehicle crash that shut down I-10 west of Tucson, Arizona.

Two Trucks And A Passenger Vehicle Collide On Westbound I-10

The crash was reported to the Arizona Department of Public Safety around 4:30 a.m.

Authorities say that two tractor trailers and one passenger vehicle collided in the westbound lanes of I-10 near the Avra Valley Road exit at mile marker 242.

The driver of one of the trucks and the car driver both escaped from the crash with no serious injuries. The driver of the second truck was trapped inside his vehicle and had to be extracted.

The trapped truck driver was taken to the hospital and is listed in serious condition.

Major Traffic Backups Reported On Westbound I-10

The crash caused serious backups while crews worked to clear spilled fuel and debris.

All lanes of westbound I-10 were reopened by 8:30 a.m., but other crashes have been reported nearby, causing additional backups.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
