Trucker flagged down and then assaulted by two men on I-35

Published:

A truck driver says that he was attacked by two men after they flagged him down along I-35 in Iowa.

According to the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened at 1:20 a.m. today on southbound I-35 at mile marker 180.

Fifty-one year old Utah-based truck driver Steven Butts said that two males in their 20s driving an older model white Chevy Suburban flashed their headlights and motioned for him to pull his truck over.

After Butts pulled over, he says that the two men told him to check the rear of his truck. As he complied, Butts said that one of the men displayed a knife and told him that they were going to steal his truck. Butts attempted to defend himself but then was hit in the stomach by the second man.

At this point, both suspects returned to the Suburban and fled the scene.

Butts was treated for injuries on the scene.

If you have any information on the incident, you’re asked to call the Cerro Gordo County Sheriff’s Office at 641-421-3000 or Crime Stoppers at 800-383-0088.
