Trucker Invites Freezing Family Stuck In Traffic Into His Warm Big Rig
Earlier today, two semi trucks, two passenger vehicles, and a Greyhound bus were involved in a pileup crash that left several people injured and caused miles long traffic backups along southbound I-65.

WAVE 3 news reporter Maira Ansari found herself stuck in the traffic backup on the way to the crash site and noticed that a truck driver kept getting out of his rig to go over to a car.
Ansari soon learned that the heat had gone out in the car, leaving motorist Melissa Root, Root’s daughter in law, and two toddler-aged grandchildren, subject to dangerously cold temperatures inside the vehicle.
Truck driver Paul Marcum learned about the plight of the freezing family and invited them into the cozy cab of his truck, where he shared water and snacks. Marcum told WAVE 3, “I can’t imagine being out here without no heat.”
Root expressed gratitude to Marcum for helping keep her grandchildren warm during the traffic jam: It means a lot. He’s a godsend. My babies are warm. As long as they are warm, I’m fine until I get to the next rest stop and get here or something for them.”
