Troopers seek answers after semi flips on runaway ramp

Troopers say that the truck's brakes may have failed.

California troopers say that a trucker may have lost his brakes prior to a fatal rollover crash on a runaway truck ramp on Cajon Pass.

The crash happened at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, November 8, on southbound I-15 through Cajon Pass, according to Highland Community News.

Troopers say that a male truck driver in his 50’s was hauling two trailers loaded with gravel when he lost control and rolled his truck several times on a runaway ramp.

After the crash, the driver was trapped inside the overturned truck. Emergency personnel attempted to rescue him, but he succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Though the California Highway Patrol (CHP) is still investigating the cause of the crash, witnesses reported that the truck appeared to have lost its brakes. Police do not believe that alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash.

The identity of the truck driver has not been released pending the notification of his family.

CHP is asking anyone with information on the crash to call Officer Liddle at the San Bernardino Office at (909) 383-4247.
