After an Oklahoma trooper’s close call with a semi truck illegally passing went viral, many social media users are questioning the trooper’s response to the incident.
The incident was caught on camera on Tuesday, November 27, just before 5 p.m.
Oklahoma Highway Patrol Trooper David Hamilton was driving near the SH59A and SH3W junction close to Ada when a semi truck driver attempted to pass two other vehicles in a no-passing zone. This forced Trooper Hamilton onto the shoulder of the roadway to avoid what could have been a deadly head on collision with the semi truck.
Oklahoma troopers shared the video to encourage drivers to follow all traffic laws “to ensure everyone has a safe holiday season.”
After viewing the video, many social media users questioned whether the trooper’s speedy U-Turn in front of other vehicles and his own driving left of center were safe and justified.
Others defended the trooper’s driving.
After the near miss, Trooper Hamilton said that the truck driver was polite and apologetic. Nevertheless, he was cited for driving left of center in a marked zone.
