Georgia State Police have charged a woman with vehicular homicide in connection with the death of a truck driver earlier this week in Whitfield County.
On Tuesday, October 23, around 8:30 a.m., Florida-based truck driver Denton Edmond was southbound on I-75 near mile marker 327 when one of his tires blew out, according to WRCBTV. Edmond pulled over into the emergency lane to check the damage, then placed his safety triangles.
Police say Edmond was standing near the back of his truck when 42 year old St. Louis, Missouri resident Ontaya Brooks lost control and veered off into the emergency lane, striking Edmond.
Edmond died as a result of his injuries.
Officers with the Georgia State Patrol arrested Brooks and charged her with vehicular homicide and failure to maintain her lane.
The incident remains under investigation, but police say that fatigue could have been a factor in the crash. Police are still awaiting the results of an alcohol test.
