19 hurt after bus slammed into overturned mail truck, splitting it in half

Virginia State Police say that nearly 20 people were hurt in a charter bus vs. truck crash on Sunday.

The crash was reported around 4:30 a.m. on Sunday on eastbound I-64 at mile marker 100 outside of Charlottesville, Virginia.

The crash began when a truck hauling mail overturned on I-64 during inclement weather conditions. An oncoming charter bus was not able to stop in time and struck the mail truck, splitting the truck into two pieces.

Virginia State Police say that 19 people were hurt in the crash, including the 44 year old truck driver and the 62 year old bus driver.

State police said that “Fog & icy conditions were to blame in this AM’s crash on I64 in #NelsonCounty involving a tractor-trailer & chartered bus.”

The Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Safety Team and the US Postal Inspection Service are investigating the crash, according to CNN.
