A truck driver who spent decades behind the wheel was recently accompanied on his final ride by a convoy of semi trucks.
After 64 year old Wisconsin-based semi truck driver Randy Gunderson lost his life in a single-vehicle crash in Minnesota on July 15, family members wanted to fulfill his wishes and give him a trucker’s procession send off.
Gunderson, who spent more than 40 years of his life as a truck driver and eventually founded his own trucking company, told family members that he wanted a funeral convoy when his time came. And, following his passing, a group of 23 truck drivers — some of whom had never even met Gunderson — turned out on July 20 to give the veteran trucker the send-off he deserved.
Gunderson’s son Andrew told News 8000, “The sound of that first horn– I just remember it growing up all the time having him honk the horn and doing everything he could to make me love the truck. And with the send off, once I heard the first horn I completely lost it and I think a lot of others did too. And that’s what he probably wanted as well and it’s a great thing that kind of made it so much better than what it was.”
