The repercussions of mega carrier Celadon’s demise continue to rattle the trucking industry, with the carrier’s Canadian affiliate also closing down and leaving hundreds of people suddenly jobless before the holidays.
When Celadon announced Monday morning that they were filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and shuttering operations for good, it also meant that Ayr, Ontario-based affiliate company Hyndman Transport was closing too.
Hyndman Transport employed 400 workers, who are now out of a job due to the failure of Celadon, the CBC reports.
The Township of North Dumfries shared a press release on December 11 addressing the Hyndman closure. In the press release, they noted that “some drivers have been stranded as a result of the closure and a small group of staff and other trucking firms are working to get these employees home and out of these precarious situations.”
Hyndman Transport has been in operation for more than 75 years and was acquired by Celadon in 2013. The year before the acquisition, Hyndman Transport generated $48 million in revenue.
Celadon has 25 affiliate companies impacted by the mega-carrier’s closure due to a years-long scandal related to company executives allegedly conspiring to deceive investors.
