The week, a new seven-mile long, four lane truck route officially opened in Florida.
On the morning of Friday, September 13, Florida transportation officials officially opened the Starke Truck Route (also known as State Road 223), which is intended to cut down on traffic congestion on U.S. 301.
The $90 million 7.3 mile four lane truck route will allow drivers to bypass Starke and is expected to carry 25,000 vehicles per day by 2020.
There are two exits along the Starke Truck Route that provide access to State Road 100 and State Road 16.
Ground was broken on the project in the summer of 2016. Florida transportation officials say that the project has been in the works for more than two decades.
The Florida Department of Transportation says that crews will continue to complete minor tasks on the Starke Truck Route in the coming weeks.
