‘Black Smoke Matters’ Members Make Their Late Night TV Debut

A group of truck drivers who are part of the online “Black Smoke Matters” group were featured in a late night tv show segment about the state of the trucking industry.

This week, the Late Night with Seth Meyers show ran a segment called “The Check In: Trump and Trucking” that examined the state of the trucking industry in the Trump era.

“The Check In” segment highlighted an MSNBC interview that originally aired earlier this summer featuring members of the “Black Smoke Matters” group. During the clip, the Black Smoke Matters members discussed the impact of taxes and per diem changes.

Black Smoke Matters’ began as a Facebook group and grew to a membership of several thousand drivers. The group has organized numerous protest activities to raise awareness about trucking issues like the ELD Mandate, driver training standards, and Hours of Service regulation problems. Earlier this year, the group organized a number of protest activities including “slow rolls” leading up to a planned April 12 driver shutdown that had lower-than-expected participation.
