Authorities in Colorado say that about 100 vehicles were involved in a pileup crash on a one mile stretch of interstate during a severe winter storm yesterday.
The pileup began around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, on I-25 near mile marker 290, about 15 miles north of Wellington, Colorado, according to a report from The Coloradoan.
Most of the crashes happened in the northbound lanes, where there was a 40 vehicle pileup, a 30 vehicle pileup, and then smaller crashes that brought the total number of vehicles involved in the pileup to about 100.
Authorities say that a few people suffered serious injuries and were transported to the hospital for treatment.
The cause of the pileup is still under investigation but authorities say that icy roads and blowing snow were causing poor road conditions at the time of the crash.
The crash shut down northbound I-25 from Wellington to the Wyoming border. As of 10 a.m. today, the interstate remains closed.
