Body of frozen trucker found at Illinois distribution center

Published:

Illinois police are investigating the death of a semi truck driver whose body was discovered at a FedEx delivery hub in freezing temperatures.

Police were called to the FedEx freight distribution hub in East Moline, Illinois, around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 31, according to a news release from the City of East Moline Police Department.

FedEx Cold

A FedEx worker discovered the body of a 69 year old semi truck driver lying between two semi trucks parked at the facility. Investigators are not sure how long the body had been undiscovered between the trucks before it was found.

Foul play is not suspected.

Police are conducting an investigation into the cause of the truck driver’s death. They say that they will not release the official cause of death until after the autopsy is conducted on February 4, but they do say that winter weather is being considered as a factor.

From the news release:

“East Moline experienced snowfall, ice, and snowpack conditions as well as subzero temperatures over the last 48 hours as did much of the midwest. The weather is being considered by investigators as a circumstance that may have played a role in the death…”

Police say that they are reviewing security footage from the facility as part of their investigation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the East Moline Police Department at 309-752-1545.
