Botched helicopter landing mangles semi trailer

The incident is under investigation by the FAA and the NTSB.

A helicopter carrying three people did some serious damage when it crashed near a trucking company’s terminal in Indiana over the weekend.

The crash occurred on Sunday afternoon in Lebanon, Indiana, according to a report from the Indianapolis Star.

Authorities say that 50 year old Illinois resident Randy A. McCormick was piloting a 1958 Sikorsky S-58JT helicopter when he crashed into an empty trailer at the XPO Logistics terminal while he was attempting to land the aircraft.

The blades of the helicopter struck the trailer and sent debris flying. Police say that three cars and one other trailer were struck by debris.

McCormick suffered a minor injury during the incident. The other two people traveling on the helicopter weren’t hurt.

The incident is under investigation by multiple agencies including the Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board.
