Bridge collapse sends truck plummeting into creek

Published:

A truck driver is lucky to have walked away unscathed after a small bridge located on private property collapsed under his vehicle yesterday.

The bridge collapse occurred on Monday afternoon in Monroe, Washington.

According to the Snohomish County Fire District 7, a truck driver hauling a septic vaults on Old Owen Road attempted to cross a private bridge over Woods Creek. The truck was apparently too heavy for the structure and it collapsed, causing the truck to fall about 10 feet into the creek below.

The truck came to a stop lying on the passenger side in the creek.

Authorities say that there were no injuries to the truck driver.

Because the bridge is privately owned, it isn’t clear if there was signage warning the truck driver of any weight limit.

Local man Ken Zappia told Kiro 7, “I don’t know if I would have gone over it in a big old truck though. It’s scary just going over in my car.”
