Bucket truck worker goes ‘upside down and sideways’ after being struck by truck

Published:

A motorist’s dash cam captured incredible footage of the moment that a box truck clipped a  bucket truck, upending the Texas utility worker.

The incident was caught on camera on February 25 in Houston, Texas, by motorist Andrew Wolf, according to a report from WECT.

In the video, you can see that a utility worker is performing repairs on a traffic light as both Wolf and a box truck approach the intersection. As the vehicles pass under the traffic light, the box truck clips the utility worker’s bucket truck, upending him in his safety harness.

Wolf said that the worker hung “upside down and sideways” for about 30 seconds after the box truck strike. The box truck driver pulled over and Wolf called 911.

The utility worker was reportedly shaken but was not seriously hurt.

“This is probably the most epic and horrific thing that I’ve seen,” Wolf said. “You can see they ignored some safety rules. They didn’t have the road blocked off. The truck wasn’t protecting anybody. But they were smart enough to put on a belt and a helmet, and that’s definitely what saved his life.”
