Dump truck caught on camera striking pedestrian bridge

The dump truck driver was cited for unsafe operation of a vehicle.

Surveillance cameras captured the moment that a dump truck became precariously wedged under a pedestrian bridge in Cleveland this week.

The dump truck became stuck around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 30, according to Fox 8.

Police say that the 76 year old dump truck driver Joseph Gammalo was driving on East 49th Street off of I-77 with the bed of his truck in the raised position when it struck the pedestrian bridge that spans the roadway.

The bridge strike sent the cab of the truck into the air as the dump bed became wedged under the bridge.

Gammalo was rescued with a ladder and taken to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries.

Gammalo was later cited for unsafe operation of a motor vehicle.

The incident caused transportation officials to partially close I-77 and caused major traffic delays. It took hours for crews to remove the dump truck.
