Feds say trucker sped off during inspection, abandoned truck full of people

Published:

Border Patrol is asking for help from the public in locating a truck driver who they say fled a checkpoint and later abandoned his truck with dozens of people inside the trailer.

The incident happened on June 2 at the Laredo North Station Checkpoint located on I-35 at mile marker 29 near Laredo, Texas, according to a news release from the Border Patrol.

Authorities say that the incident began when they referred a semi truck for secondary inspection after a canine alerted to the presence of concealed humans.

Rather than stopping for the inspection, Border Patrol says that the semi truck fled the checkpoint.

Agents pursued the truck and spotted it stopping near mile marker 30 on I-35. The truck driver escaped into the brush on the side of the interstate.

Agents discovered 52 people inside the truck’s trailer.

Border Patrol describes the truck driver as a 6 foot tall male with tattoos on his neck who was last seen wearing a black shirt. Anyone with information on the suspect is asked to call the Laredo Sector Border Patrol toll free at 1-800-343-1994.
