Four 18 wheelers involved in fatal crash, 14 mile backups reported

Louisiana State Police say that a semi truck driver lost his life today in a crash involving four trucks that occurred on I-10.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. on Thursday, July 25 on westbound I-10 at mile marker 140 east of Grosse Tete, Louisiana.

Right before the Grosse Tete exit , westbound at mile marker 138. Avoid taking I10 if going towards Lafayette and Texas way

Local news station WAFB reports that two truck drivers pulled off of the interstate to exchange information after being involved in a minor fender bender. While these drivers were out of their cabs talking, they were hit by a third and then a fourth semi truck.

One of the truck drivers involved in the initial fender bender, 82 year old Texas resident Robert McCarty, lost his life. The other truck drivers suffered minor injuries.

Traffic backups of more than 14 miles have been reported in the area.

Police are asking drivers to avoid the area if possible.
