A team of more than 100 workers is hard at work helping to maneuver a massive oversized load through Houston, Texas, area roadways.
Over the weekend, crews with Smith Specialized Logistics have been working with state and local authorities to transport two huge crates containing parts for a drilling platform on a 108 mile journey from Spring Branch to Bayport, Texas. From Bayport Cruise Terminal, the drilling platform is headed to South Korea.

The largest of the crates reportedly is 56 feet long, 27 feet high and 24 feet wide.
The large load is thought to be one of the biggest to ever pass though Houston and requires more than 30 state troopers and 20 bucket trucks as an escort, according to ABC 13.

The move, which is only conducted at night to cut down on traffic disruptions, has not gone totally smoothly. Late Friday night, two motorcycle officers helping to escort the load were injured when a suspected drunk 36 year old motorist drove through a blocked intersection and struck them.
CenterPoint Energy has planned short power outages along the oversized load route to allow the crates to safety pass around electrical wires.

Portions of the I-45 Gulf Freeway are scheduled to be shut down in both directions on Monday night to accommodate the oversized load.
Update (@ 8 a.m. 8/5/19): The over-sized load is parked for the day on the old Manvel Road Spur just before 518 right off of 1128. They will resume operations tonight at 8:30 p.m. https://t.co/N9TRrUyRF9
