Police: Truck driver ‘didn’t notice’ slowed traffic before causing deadly I-65 pileup

Indiana State Police have released additional information about this morning’s fatal pileup on southbound I-65.

Troopers say that the crash involved four semi trucks, one passenger vehicle, and a white delivery van.

The driver of the white van was killed in the crash. The driver of the passenger vehicle suffered serious head injuries.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Kim Riley said that crash occurred because the driver of a southbound semi truck “didn’t notice” that traffic was slowed on the interstate due to a previous crash.

The interstate remains closed as of 1 p.m.

ORIGINAL REPORT—————————————————————————Indiana State Police say that southbound I-65 is closed for a multi-vehicle crash involving several semi trucks.

The crash was reported around 9 a.m. on Thursday, September 12, on southbound I-65 in Clinton County, Indiana.

Indiana State Police report “multiple crashes” at mile marker 160. In images captured at the crash scene, you can see several semi trucks and a white van piled up on the interstate.

Troopers have confirmed that one person has died. One other person has been airlifted from the scene, WLFI reports.

I-65 is expected to remain closed for several more hours. Troopers are offering the following detour: “Take exit 168 to SR 38. Go West to US 52 and go south to SR 47 east to return to I-65 SB.”
