California transportation officials are warning drivers to expect “significant” delays after a deadly series of crashes involving multiple semi trucks.
The crash occurred around 7:30 on morning of Thursday, May 23, on northbound I-5 near Stockton, California, according to Caltrans.
Officials say that an initial crash involved a semi truck rollover, but that this led to a secondary crash during which a semi truck collided with several other vehicles and caught fire.
Police say that five semi trucks and several cars were involved in the crashes.
At least two people died in the crashes. It isn’t yet clear how many people if any were hurt.
Caltrans says that northbound I-5 is closed from Eight Mile Road to SR-12. The interstate is expected to remain shut down for several hours.
The incident is still under investigation.
