Iowa authorities warn truckers not to trust GPS when looking for flood detours

Iowa transportation officials are warning truck drivers of the consequences of trusting their GPS devices while looking for ways around an interstate closure.

Flooding in western Iowa has shut down portions of I-29 and I-680 over the past several days, forcing some truckers off of their normal routes — and into some tight squeezes.

Both the Iowa State Patrol and the Iowa Department of Transportation have shared photos of semi trucks stuck under bridges because drivers reportedly followed their GPS devices — and not approved detour routes and signage.
