Major driver layoff ahead after trucking terminal closes

Published:

A major trucking company has announced that they’ll be laying off dozens of truck drivers due to the closure of one of their Indiana facilities.

On May 18, Penske Logistics informed Indiana officials that they will be shutting down their Fort Wayne facility, resulting in a large number of layoffs.

Penske Logistics says that 80 workers will be laid off and that the majority of those workers are truck drivers. The company says that all affected employees have been notified of their termination dates and have been informed that the layoffs are permanent. However, Penske Logistics also says that they are looking for employment opportunities for the laid off workers at other locations.

The layoffs are scheduled to begin July 20, 2019.

The closure of the facility and the resulting layoffs are a result of a “recent local trucking contract termination,” Penske told Inside Indiana Business.
