Man dies after jumping off overpass, crashing into sleeper berth of semi

Indiana State Police have reported a disturbing incident that occurred when a man leapt from an I-94 overpass on Tuesday.

Troopers say that the incident occurred at 12:58 p.m. on August 27 in LaPorte County, Indiana.

Witnesses told troopers that a 47 year old Michigan City man driving a pickup truck northbound on County Line Road when he stopped as he drove onto an overpass over I-94.

Troopers say that the man got out of his pickup and jumped off the east side of the bridge.

Indiana State Police describe the fatal incident in a press release:

The 47 year old hit the windshield of a 2019 semi Volvo tractor pulling a refrigerated trailer that was east bound on I-94; after hitting the windshield he then bounced off and went through the top of the tractor coming to rest inside the semi’s sleeper.  The 47 year old was pronounced dead at the scene by a deputy with the LaPorte County Coroner’s office

The truck driver, a 38 year old Ontario resident, wasn’t hurt.

Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including theLaPorte County Sheriff’s Department, thePorter County Sheriff’s Department, the Indiana Department of Transportation, LaPorte County Coroner’s Office, and ISP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division.
