Ohio police say that they have issued multiple charges against a woman who allegedly used a semi truck to kill her own daughter.
Police in Mentor, Ohio, say that 37 year old Kia Ferguson was arrested last week and charged with multiple felony charges including aggravated homicide, attempted homicide, attempted aggravated homicide, felonious assault, and endangering children after she was indicted by a Lake County grand jury.
The charges follow a nine month investigation into a crash that occurred on January 25, 2019 on I-90 in Mentor.
The two-vehicle crash involved a UPS semi truck and Ferguson’s car and caused the car to skid down an embankment, Cleveland.com reports.
The crash killed Ferguson’s ten year old daughter and critically injured her six year old son. Ferguson was also critically hurt in the crash.
The semi truck driver was uninjured.
In a press release, Mentor city officials wrote that during the course of the investigation, “it became clear that Ms. Ferguson intentionally drove in front of the semi truck.”
Ferguson is reportedly out of custody on bond, but is not allowed to drive or have contact with her son. She is being monitored by a GPS device.
Ferguson is due back in court on October 23.
