The White House recently called on a Pennsylvania trucking company to haul heavy military equipment for a Fourth of July celebration in Washington, D.C.
Carlisle-based trucking company Daily Express Inc. was contacted last week by the U.S. military about hauling four tanks set to appear at an Independence Day celebration in D.C.
Mark Eyer, Daily Express vice president of operations, told PennLive, “We received a call last Friday, on June 28, from the military regarding moving these Army tanks for the July 4th celebration. The call came in around 1:30 in the afternoon, and we’ve been jumping through hoops ever since to get everything moved.”
The hauling task set out by the military involved transporting four tanks about six miles after they were moved in the Washington D.C. area via rail.
The truck drivers responsible for hauling the tanks are Department of Defense certified.

There is some concern in Washington that the two Bradley fighting vehicles and two Abrams battle tanks are too heavy for the D.C. roadways to handle, but Eyer promises that there will be no damage to the infrastructure whatsoever. Should any damage occur, though, Washington D.C. deputy mayor Kevin Donahue promises to send the bill to the White House.

On Tuesday, Daily Express drivers hauled the two Bradleys into place at a location near the Lincoln Memorial. The 60 ton Abrams tanks will be hauled into place on Wednesday night to a location near the National Mall.
