Police body cam shows how trucker traffic stop took a deadly turn

Published:

Ohio police have shared stunning body cam video of an officer’s attempt to ticket a truck driver that ended in deadly gunfire.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, at TMK Farm Service in Sugarcreek, Ohio, according to WKYC.

Authorities say that the incident began when 37 year old Sugarcreek Police Department Captain Brian Dalton attempted to ticket 32 year old North Carolina-based truck driver Elijah Collins III after he allegedly damaged property by entering an area where trucks were forbidden.

During the interaction, Collins appears to be cooperative and calm, but then he suddenly lunged at Dalton after he learned he’d have to appear in court, stabbing him in the neck with a screwdriver.

Dalton fired multiple shots at Collins in response.

Collins died at the scene.

Dalton was hospitalized but is expected to be okay. ““He is stable and alert and still in ICU currently. He seems to be doing very well, responding very well. We expect a full recovery at this point,” said Police Chief Kevin Kaser on Thursday.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
