Police: Driver left truck idling on interstate and ‘mysteriously vanished’

Published:

California police are asking the public for help in locating a semi truck driver who they say went missing under mysterious circumstances.

The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office has issued a call for help from the public to find 54 year old Fowler, California-based truck driver Satwant Singh Bains who went missing on May 15.

From a news release from the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office:

Around 5:00 am on May 15th, officers with the California Highway Patrol responded to Interstate 5 and Whitworth Road, which is just northwest of Los Banos. Officers received a report of a big rig truck pulling a refrigeration trailer idle on the freeway, partially blocking the northbound right lane. Officers discovered the truck’s engine running and the doors were unlocked with no one inside. Officers found a cell phone and wallet inside the truck belonging to Satwant Bains. Officers checked the immediate area and could not find Bains. His truck and trailer were towed away to a storage area. Officers contacted Bains’ family and informed them of the situation. Due to Bains being a Fowler resident, his family filed a missing persons report later in the day with the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Bains was reportedly hauling a load to Fairfield (northern California). Family members say it is out of character for Bains to vanish without telling anyone.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter was also deployed in the search for Bains without any success.

Authorities say that Bains is diabetic and may need medication.

Bains is described as 5’8″ tall weighing 230 pounds with brown eyes, black hair, a mustache and a goatee. He also has a small black cross tattooed on his right hand.

If you have information about Bains, you are asked to contact Fresno County Sheriff’s Office at (559) 600-3111 and reference case  # 19-6289.
